The venue issues a code through its registration page, app or email, the visitor shows it on a phone screen or brings a printed ticket, and the scanner built into the pedestal reads it in a fraction of a second before the acrylic swing arms open in 0.5 seconds. Codes can be dynamic, meaning the code refreshes at short intervals and is valid once, so a screenshot forwarded to a friend does not open the lane. When the network is unstable the controller keeps validating against a local list that is synchronised from the registration platform, and every pass with a QR code is stored with the code value, lane number, date and time so the organiser can reconcile registrations against actual arrivals.
